The unit we are reviewing is the JNC300XLC model. This is their modified version of this model, which meets energy consumption requirements in several states, including California and Oregon. The benefit of this for all users, regardless of where they reside, is that to meet the requirement, they have equipped the unit with an automatic charging circuit, which means it can be left connected to the AC main indefinitely without adverse effect.
This jump starter weighs only 9lbs and can charge most passenger vehicles, 4-cylinders, 6-cylinders, and even larger vehicles.
In summary, this is a well designed and well thought out product that has (so far) performed well for me when I needed it.
Pros:
-Successfully jump started my 4 door passenger sedan (1 time) and medium size SUV (2 times) out of the box, and on one charge.
-Clamps are full size (unlike some of the small mini clamps on the pocket jump starters being sold in the same price range)
-Permanent instructions printed on a glossy sticker on the bottom of the unit (so anyone who is unfamiliar with car batteries can easily use the unit)
-Battery status indicator to show available charge (although I have not tested the readout against performance)
-relatively small in size, small enough to store in your trunk without taking up too much room
The only con I can see is that this unit has a fairly high jump in price for the CA and OR "energy compliant" charger. According to the manufacturer, the only difference is that the unit has an automatic charging circuit, which means it can be left connected to the AC main indefinitely without adverse effect.
Overall this unit offers great convenience and peace of mind whenever you have a dead car battery. Not needing a second car and positioning cars around to get batteries within cable reach is a great time saver when you are trying to get out the door to work and your battery won't start. So far, the performance of the unit has been great, starting our cars 3 times on one charge, and with good power (maybe 3-4 cranks). Just charge the unit every few months to keep it topped up. Using this unit has prompted me to get a 2nd unit, so that all cars my family owns can have one in the trunk.
